Focus groups in Sweden, in June

The Stereotype Smashers: The Gender Equality Game project took an important step towards understanding gender dynamics in the world of work through two dedicated series of focus groups, held in Italy and Sweden.

In parallel with the focus groups, in June we launched a new round of focus groups in Sweden, involving similar settings. The approach was analogous and complementary: guided by Mobilizing Expertise, participants shared their everyday experiences, identifying deep-rooted stereotypes but also positive examples of inclusivity. The main themes revolved around the culture of flexible work, access to career progression and the recognition of skills regardless of gender.

Results and impact

The comparative approach between Italy and Sweden enriched the project’s knowledge base, highlighting the cultural and operational specifics of the two contexts. The comparison created a solid basis for adapting the three game prototypes to local realities more effectively.

Thanks to these focus groups, the project gained:

• a realistic picture of stereotypes and behaviours in workplaces;
• concrete examples to use in game design;
• an opportunity for exchange between partners, enriching the European dimension of the project.
